The history of this place began on April 30th, 1952, when João Bernardino acquired this property, where an old watermill dedicated to flour milling once stood. Later, the space became home to agricultural activities, including pig farming. Over the decades, this place grew alongside the family, shaped by the work, dedication, and vision of each generation.

Years later, the property took on a new identity when it was leased to his grandson, António Barbosa, together with three partners, giving rise to the emblematic “Moinho do Canto”. A place of gathering and conviviality, remembered for its memorable moments, music, and atmosphere that marked so many people over the years.

In 2015, the property was passed on to Maria Arminda, daughter of João Bernardino, remaining unused for some time while awaiting a new purpose.

In 2021, António Barbosa, son of Maria Arminda and grandson of João Bernardino, inherited the property with the desire to preserve its essence and honour the family legacy.

In 2026, Moinho do Canto Residence was born, the result of a vision to transform this place into a space of comfort, nature, and hospitality, while keeping its history alive for future generations.

Under the direction of António Barbosa and his wife Marilia Rita, this project reflects a clear vision: to offer a welcoming, thoughtful and personal experience, without compromising on elegance and contemporary design.

Moinho do Canto was conceived as a place where every guest feels welcome from the very first moment. This closeness extends to the team, with an active presence in the day- to-day running of the space, ensuring attentive and personalised service.

At reception, guests will be welcomed by the next generation of the family, reinforcing the genuine and familiar character of the project, where every detail matters and every stay is handled with care.
